Last update: 6th August 2014 –
Thanks to @OERhub team – @nopiedra – @EbbaOssian for sharing the data collected in their projectsÂ
After weeks and weeks digging on the internet, reviewing hundreds of OER initiatives, projects, blogs and hashtags, and also harassing other OER enthusiasts and experts in twitter, I managed to develop a first version of a directory of OER repositories.
This version only includes the name of the repository, the URL and the country of the initiative and there are 73 OER repositories associated. If you know any other, if you see that I’m missing one (or many), if you are developing one, or you have any feedback, ideas or comments, please contact me on twitter @jatenas, as your input is really important for me.
I deliberatively did not include OWC, Institutional Repositories (articles, reports, thesis), ITunesU, MOOC initiatives, Open TextBooks, OpenAccess Repositories, sets of content that are not under CC licences such as BBC, or hybrid content repositories because this research is based on repositories of Open Educational Resources only.
Thanks to Andreas Link @elearning4, Abel Caine @abelcaine, Leo Havemann @leohavemann and Francisco Rojas @frojas_sateler for sharing resources and ideas.
Also thanks to (list growing):Â @fagottissimo; @JanPawlowski;Â @gildevic; @actwww; @fredgarnett; @curtrice; @ernestopriego;Â @sarahthesheepu; @dkernohan; @alacre

Printed Scholar is an open peer reviewed online journal for all academics. We are based in Atlanta, Ga, USA. It’s free to publish, free to join.
Thanks for this directory. It’s really helpful. In addition, ZUM-Wiki (http://wiki.zum.de) is a repository for open school materials from Germany.
Thank you! I will have a look and check if I can add it to the list
Perhaps it would helpful to use (and compare with) an existing Wiki for this collection, e.g. http://wikieducator.org/Exemplary_Collection_of_Open_eLearning_Content_Repositories 🙂
best wishes, Sandra
hope you already recogniced this one here: http://wikieducator.org/Exemplary_Collection_of_Open_eLearning_Content_Repositories
Thanks Martin! I checked this collection in wikieducator and also http://www.opendoar.org/ to try to gather a complete directory as I needed to complile a wider list.
hmm, sorry to see that quite a lot of cool European stuff is missing…especially the top repositories in science education such as http://www.openscienceresources.eu/ or management http://learn.openscout.net
Hi Jan, thank you for the feedback, I just added the Open Science Resources portal http://www.osrportal.eu/ to the list. I did not added open scout as this is a mixed content repository which contains documents, thesis and reports but it should be included in http://www.opendoar.org/ as this database includes hybrid models

die neue OpenLearnWare-Plattform der TU Darmstadt ist als Beta-Version online! openlearnware.hrz.tu-darmstadt.de #OLW_TU #oer #tudarmstadt
“TU Darmstadt” is the university which launched the platform. I just checked out the options to search the data base. Seems to be very functional, although it’s a beta version.
Hi Anne,
I will add it to this list today!
All the best
Hi Javiera, was very happy to contribute.
Wondering why the NC restriction?
Thanks for the input Abel!
Hello! Just a small amendment: OpenLearn is housed at The Open University in the United Kingdom (not in Germany)
Thank you! Doing the change now!
Hello! Just (another) small reminder icleen (www.icleen.museum) is housed at Museo delle Scienze in Italy. Not UK!!
Grazie mile Matteo, ho già cambiato il errorem mi dispace.

Thank you Simon! I just added it to the list!
Open Academics textbook catalog (http://open.umn.edu)
Hi David, I have been listing here only OER repositories because there wasn’t a directory for this resources, but I suggest you to contact http://www.opentextbook.org/ for them to add the Open Acedemics to their database.
Thank you!
Allow me to suggest i2geo.net
paul
Hi Paul!
Sorry for the late reply! It looks brilliant but unfortunately asks for registration and membership for searching for content. I understand repositories asking contributors to register before submit content but is not a very open practice to ask for registration for searching and accessing content.
Also, as I’m unable to access it I cannot check the license or copyright of the resources, can you send me a little more information or send me your mail (by twitter on @jatenas if you prefer) and we can talk, as I think that with a few changes this repository can have a massive impact in math education.
Thanks you
Hello Javiera,
this must be a misunderstanding.
The login and password fields are indeed present on each page if not logged in but we do not require login at all for each view.
E.g. http://i2geo.net/xwiki/bin/view/Search/Simple?terms=%23Ellipse_r can be seen from everything even wget. Searching for things on i2geo.net with google also gives plenty of results.
I am fearing you have hit a bug where a search result was displayed for a private resource… the bug would be that it is shown. It is not the experience I have heard about by others but your help there would be useful.
paul
Hi,
Can I make a suggestion? If you use google analytics you will be able to trace who, when and where accessed and downloaded your resources without the need of login or register, as this tends to put people off.
Is a good practice allow people to simply access the resources without any barrier and enable analytics by cookies and only request registration in case you accept contributions.
I think I got your e-mail address on the mail related to this post (xxxhup.net??) please let me know if this is correct and I’m happy to share ideas by mail 🙂
All the best
Javiera
Hello Javiera,
Strangely enough I can’t post a comment to the response… seems like a limit is hit.
We do not use google analytics anymore but viewing resources without login has always been part of our philosophy. So I am pretty sure you must have hit an unexpected bone. Also, you are the first to report this whereas we had xx resource views since February 2012 and xx metadata views.
Here are two learning resources that everyone can see without being logged in:
(with correct views amounts, sorry for too early mail) Hello Javiera,
Strangely enough I can’t post a comment to the response… seems like a limit is hit.
We do not use google analytics anymore but viewing resources without login has always been part of our philosophy. So I am pretty sure you must have hit an unexpected bone. Also, you are the first to report this whereas we had 3’044’212 resource views since February 2012 and 555’608 metadata views. I am sure a large majority is not logged-in since the default page after logged-in (/MyCurriki/ has been called just 701 times).
Here are two learning resources that everyone can see without being logged in:
Hi Paul, I just re-reviewed it and now the licences are more clear and login is no longer fully required so I just added it.
All the best

The italian service named ICLEEN and mentioned in this page has changed URL. The new one is http://www.icleen.muse.it
Ciao Matteo!
I just changed the address, will try updating the map as soon as I have some spare time.
Best wishes
Javiera
thnks a lot Javiera!
ciao
matteo
Hi Matteo,
Do you have a twitter feed for the repository? I just want to post a note about the change of address
You can send me a note on @jatenas if you are in twitter so we can spread the word

Javiera,
I had sent you the mail whose text is found here: http://draft.i2geo.net/static/paultmp/response-to-javiera.txt
as a response but I see now, coming back to this page, that only the first part came in.
As I indicated, I believe your analysis about i2geo’s limiting is wrong.
paul
Hi Paul,
Apologies for the late reply but I just move jobs and I didn’t have time to look at this. I discussed this with my colleague Leo Havemann and we agreed to include your repository but there are certain concerns that I would like you to help us clarifying (we will update the map at some point but we are quite busy at this time)
We would like you to consider these further points:
1. About copyrighted content: As mentioned in the user conduct area, is clearly stated that some of the content is not open therefore not OER (B) The i2geo Website contains copyrighted material, trademarks and other proprietary information, including, but not limited to, text, software, photos, video, graphics, music and sound. Except as expressly provided by the copyright holder and the terms of the applicable license, User may not modify, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content, in whole or in part)
We would like to encourage to have all the content fully open without copyright restrictions, this is the difference between a Learning Object and a OER.
2. Registration: In your privacy policy is stated:
REGISTRATION
In order to use this Web site, you must first complete the registration form and create a user name and password. During registration you are required to give contact information (such as your email address).
Which means that the site is not fully open, and when we tried to evaluate a resource, the following message was displayed “Members can submit comments for resources. Join i2geo or log in so you can add a comment here”.
3: If / when possible add a legend / note next to each image clarifying if its copyrighted or under creative commons to facilitate reuse.
Hope this js helpful
Javiera

Hello Javiera, excellent compilation
perhaps Redined , http://redined.mecd.gob.es/xmlui/ red de recursos educativos, maintained by the Spanish Ministry of Education and 17 regional governments with 87000 items (17000 of them defined as resources, http://redined.mecd.gob.es/xmlui/browse?value=Recursos&type=bbdd) is in the limits to be considered an OER repository.
Best regards
Emilio
Hola Emilio!
Saludos
Emilio
Hi,
Would you mind to add “WOU OER repository” to your list
http://eprint.wou.edu.my/50/
Thanks
Hi Farzanah,
As this is not the link to a repository of OER but to a paper about OER repositories, I will addd it to the bibliography of OER if you don’t mind
Best wishes
J.
Thank you for this very useful list! Solvonauts is another repository it would be worth mentioning: solvonauts.org
Great work. Pls note that oerafrica.org is in South Africa and not Kenya or kenia. Regards!
You should add Eliademy.com, they added the collection of courses in OER form
Hi Sotiris, I just had a look and this is not really a repository but a hybrid platform which has all rights reserved (© CBTec 2015 | Made in Finland) and not all the resources are openly licensed and or free as some of the courses have premium access for up to €200 https://eliademy.com/catalog/top-paid.html and even the free courses have restricted use e.g Copyright Eduonix Learning Solutions. All rights reserved. So I will not add this to the list as it does not comply with the basics of creative commons – public domain licenses. However, resources are really interesting. Best wishes
Javiera
